2017 was a big year for EssayJack. Not only did we begin the rebuild of the EssayJack platform based on feedback from thousands of educator and student users, but we also launched our free trial and moved our executive team to Asia to oversee expansion on that side of the globe.

With all of this work under our belt behind the scenes, our CEO has worked tirelessly, overseeing various teams and projects, rolling up her sleeves for tasks both big and small, covering up for people on their leaves and holidays, and generally doing it all with a smile on her face.

Like most good leaders, she doesn't ask for praise (or get much of it), but we are proud that a global body of IT experts have noted her leadership and found it worthy.

Most of our team has spent years and years in school, either as students or as educators. Our two co-founders have 7 university degrees between them, and they've taught every grade all the way up to the PhD level! What that means is that we know how tiring an academic year can be and how great it is to have holiday time around the turn of the new year.

So as we celebrate the end of one year and the start of a new one, here are our top ten moments from 2017 as counted down under the #EJ2017moments hashtag:

The finalists have just been announced by The Tech Edvocate Awards in a whole host of educational categories from pre-kindergarten all the way up to college and university. In a spirit that recognises "change and innovation," these awards celebrate "the best that edtech has to offer by recognizing outstanding companies, people, products, etc."

In a fourth-season episode of The Wire, Bunny Colvin, a former police officer, takes a group of underprivileged middle-school students to an upscale steakhouse. Before the dinner, the students are excited and speculate boisterously about the fine fare they plan to enjoy. The actual fine-dining experience, though, is alienating for the teenagers. The environment is foreign to them. As they lack familiarity with the conventions of eating at such restaurants, it is also intimidating. Afterwards, one student asks Colvin to take them to McDonald’s.
